Society of American Foresters Student Chapter @ NC State
About
The Society of American Foresters (SAF) is the largest professional society representing foresters and natural resource professionals. SAF has advanced research, education, and connections between professionals and students for over a century. One function of SAF is to accredit universities and colleges' curricula in forestry. Each university with an accredited degree has the opportunity to establish a student chapter. NC State's SAF student chapter is a strong group with both undergraduate and graduate student involvement.
The NC State student chapter brings together students from all stages of the forestry program, as well as students in other natural resource fields. We provide meaningful and unique networking and field experiences to students to better prepare them for the workforce. Student members also engage in coordinated meetings and conferences at the national and local levels, associated with Appalachian SAF (APSAF) and the Triangle SAF chapter. Most recently, we attended the National Convention in Baltimore, Maryland, and the APSAF Winter Conference. Preceding the National Convention, members and faculty embark on a wilderness backpacking trip, which leads into travel to the convention.
Other events include panels with industry and government professionals, representation at the NC Arbor Day Festival, and a dinner hosted by the chapter for students and forestry professionals in the spring.
